The W124 convertible version is one of the most desirable versions of Mercedes-Benz's popular middle-class representative. However, looking at the A124 in retrospect, it is difficult to find signs of belonging to the middle class.
In September 1991, the fifth body variant of the middle class was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt. Why did customers have to wait six years for it?
Despite the good foundation on which the convertible was built, Mercedes had to construct some 1,000 new parts to stiffen the body. Thicker or stronger steel plate was used for almost all structural components. More than 130 kg of additional weight was necessary to compensate for the 28 kg of missing coupé roof. But it was worth it, because the result was a body that was not inferior to the sedan in its torsional rigidity and was just as safe. For the first time in 20 years, a four-seat convertible was again in the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
Just 6 months after the start of production, the A124 received upgraded interior equipment. The car gained a driver's airbag, electrically operated left and right outside mirrors, central locking and a 5-speed transmission.
In North America, Japan and the British Isles, the A124 appeared in October 1992 exclusively with a new 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine, designated the E 320 CE.
The presented unit was imported from the Netherlands, It has undergone a full engine overhaul at Legends service, it can be said that currently the engine has zero mileage. There is a second paint on the vehicle (the car was painted by the previous owner). Leather upholstery has no rips, in good condition. The softop roof works properly, has no rubbing.
