The Mercedes-Benz SL R129 is still considered by many enthusiasts of the brand to be the best compromise between classic Bruno Sacco design and functionality and ergonomics. The fourth generation of the SL made its debut at the Geneva Salon in March 1989. It was the first Mercedes roadster in which the soft top folds automatically.
For 1995, the SL R129 underwent a major facelift, which included visual changes in the form of new front and rear bumpers as well as sills, grill, and transparent front turn signals.
